Racine History Mysteries IV: SHIPWRECKED!
A collaboration of the Racine Art Museum, the Racine Heritage Museum and the Racine Public Library 9:00 am – 4:00 pm / Ages 9–13
1Week July19–23
Ever dream of becoming a stowaway on board one of the big ships that used to travel the waters of Lake Michigan? Or the Captain of a fine schooner that set sail on the Great Lakes? Or a lake diver who explores the mysteries of sunken ships in search of buried treasure? Well, come on board this year’s Racine History Mysteries as we uncover underwater adventures in Lake Michigan! Work with local experts to explore Great Lakes shipwreck mysteries. Learn why part of the ship’s bow is called a “widow-maker” and what a “breeches buoy” does. Discover who was on board these great ships. Use your imagination to become one of many men (and women!) who set sail on the Great Lakes. Write a captain’s log, or a daily journal, of what life was like on board before the big wreck. And, create a keepsake book with images and art work that tells the tale of living life aboard one of the many Great Lakes ships that never made it ashore (there have been over 3,000 shipwrecks on Lake Michigan alone!).
$95 registration fee
