Be sure to book early to tour these memorable exhibitions. Children will delight in the works of Madison artist Jennifer Angus. Angus uses insects pinned directly to a wall in repeating patterns to create the appearance of home textiles and wallpaper. The artist uses insects that are farmed or collected by indigenous peoples of the rainforest. Since these people want to preserve rather than destroy the jungle which provides for their livelihood, Angus is helping to sustain this delicate ecology through her artwork.
Kids will certainly react to the art of Catherine Chalmers. In a series of photographs, video and 2D work, the artist explores hostility towards the most maligned of all insects – the cockroach. Chalmers examines the question of what it is to be human and what is man's relationship to the insect world, examining our preconceptions about insects.
